MD (HQL) Handgun Qualification License

This 4 hour course meets the training requirements for obtaining the Maryland Handgun Qualification License which is needed for Maryland residents to purchase any regulated firearms in Maryland. Regulated firearms consist of pistols, handguns and any other firearm with a barrel length less than 16 inches.

Classroom Information 

 This is a very hands-on class in which students get to handle various types of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Some of the topics we will go over will include: 

  • Firearm Safety
  • Types of handguns
  • Proper shooting techniques
  • Transportation of your handgun(s)
  • Basic cleaning of a handgun
  • Safe Storage of your Firearm(s) 

 The Fine Print 

 After you have successfully completed the classroom training we will help you to complete the MD State Police HQL application process by uploading your Training Certificate, (HQL) fingerprints, and any other supporting documents  along with the application. Upon submitting this application there will be a fee of $50 paid by the student directly to MD State Police via credit card. 

Fingerprints 

Students will be required to get fingerprinted before submitting application to Maryland State Police. Information about this process will be provided during class.
